On February 14, 2022, Mohan Foundation’s “Anudaan- Making Transplants Affordable”
team received an email from Aster CMI Hospital, Bengaluru requesting financial aid for Baby Fariha Anam’s liver transplant, who was suffering from ACKF (Acute on chronic liver
Jaundice with decompensated liver disease) and needed an urgent liver transplant. ACLF is where liver failure occurs either suddenly (acute) or gradually (chronic).
Baby Fariha, age 6 years hails from Chintamani village, Chikkaballapura district, Karnataka. She
belongs a poor family. Her father is a farmer, growing and selling tomatoes, earning a meager monthly income of Rs. 1500 and after the corona pandemic, the family income took a massive hit.
It all started when Fariha was 3 years old. She had jaundice like symptoms and her face and hands started turning pale-yellow. She suffered from severe weight loss and mild fever. They immediately rushed her to Aster CMI Hospital, Bengaluru, where the doctors admitted her and after multiple blood tests, it was found that Fariha was suffering from ACLF. The parents were shocked to hear this. The baby needed an urgent liver transplant as her liver failure would not let her live long.
Fariha’s mother was a perfect match for the transplant, but the family could ill afford the exorbitant cost of 15 lakhs for the transplant. The doctors at Aster CMI hospital informed them about MOHAN Foundation’s Anudaan. This information gave them a new hope & new life to their daughter. With support from Anudaan, few other NGO’s & the hospital’s concession on the transplant cost, Baby Fariha successfully liver transplant on the March 24, 2022. Anudaan sanctioned Rs 1 Lakh for her liver transplant.
Both mother and daughter are recovering well. She is active, playful and eating well now. She is disciplined and doing all the exercises as per doctor’s advice. Fariha aspires to be a doctor and wants to serve the society.
“Lots of gratitude to MOHAN Foundation team for saving our daughter’s life with their financial support. We are impressed by their good and lifesaving work”-Mr. Mohammad Enayathulla, Father.
