On March 09, 2022, MOHAN Foundation’s Anudaan- “Making Transplants Affordable” team received an email from Sahayadri Super Specialty Hospital, Pune, Maharashtra, requesting financial aid for Baby Ishwari Ganesh Satav’s liver transplant who was suffering from chronic liver disease called Progressive Familial Intrahepatic Cholestasis which affects the liver.
Ishwari Ganesh Satav, age 5 years hails from Hadapsar, a town in Pune district of Maharashtra. She belongs to a poor family consisting of four members. Her father works on contract basis in a private company. A lot of family income had already been spent on Ishwari’s treatment. They had to survive on their savings. With the meager income of the family, it was very tough for them to pay a huge cost i.e. Rs. 15 Lakh for their daughter’s liver transplant.
It all started some months ago, when Ishwari was crying due to body itching and pain. She suddenly started to feel weak and lose weight. The parents felt like they were trapped in the worst nightmare. They immediately rushed to Sahayadri Super Specialty Hospital, Pune, where the doctors took her to an emergency room. She had to go through several tests. “My husband and I ran from one corner to another, trying to survive. We only had nearly Rs.10,000 at the time. So, we immediately made phone calls asking for help.” mother said.
After proper health examination and tests, it was found that Ishwari was suffering from chronic liver disease. The parents were shocked to hear the earth-shattering news. The father underwent some tests and found out that he was a perfect match for her child but the transplant cost was huge i.e., Rs.15 lakh.
The parents shared their inability to pay with the hospital team and they were informed about MOHAN Foundation’s Anudaan initiative. With support from Anudaan, few other NGOs and the hospital’s concession on transplant cost, Baby Ishwari successfully underwent a liver transplant on March 11, 2022. MOHAN Foundation sanctioned Rs. 2 Lakh for her liver transplant.
Both Father and daughter are recovering well. Ishwari is very happy to receive a new lease of life. “I will became a Doctor, mumma. I will be working at the Hospital,” Ishwari said to her mother.
“I would like to thank MOHAN Foundation’s Anudaan team for saving my daughter’s life with their financial support. Without their valuable support, the transplant would not have been possible.”-Mr. Ganesh Dattatraya Satav, Father.
