On February 12, 2022, MOHAN Foundation’s “Anudaan- Making Transplants Affordable” team received an email from Max Super Specialty Hospital, Saket, New Delhi requesting financial aid for Baby Pihu Singh’s liver transplant, who was suffering from portal hypertension and graft rejection. She underwent her first liver transplant in December, 2021. This is the second transplant which Pihu had to undergo.
Baby Pihu Singh, age 5 years is hailing from Chhatarpur, Hauz Khas, South Delhi. She belongs to a poor family. Her father works as a lab technician. With the meager income of the family, it was very tough for them to pay a huge cost i.e., Rs. 19 Lakh for Pihu’s liver transplant, that too a second time round.
Pihu started to have regular fever and stomach pain in March, 2021. Her stomach slowly started getting bigger. Her parents were worried and at the same time confused. They could not understand that why all of a sudden their daughter was constantly falling sick. They immediately rushed to a private hospital in South Delhi, where she underwent several tests. The parents were shocked to hear that Pihu was suffering from chronic liver disease.
Pihu was on medication for a long time but unfortunately no sign of improvement was seen in her health. Her father was informed about MAX Super Specialty Hospital, Saket, New Delhi for best liver treatment. Pihu was immediately taken there and was kept in ICU for some days. After some tests, the doctor declared that she needed an urgent liver transplant, without that she could not even survive. She underwent her first liver transplant in December, 2021 and slowly resumed normal and healthy life but after some days, she was again feeling weak, heavy stomach pain and mild fever.
In February, 2022, it was found that Pihu was suffering from portal hypertension & graft rejection and needed a second transplant. After the parents discussed about their poor economic situation, the doctors at Max Super Specialty Hospital informed them about MOHAN Foundation’s Anudaan. This information gave them a new hope. With support from Anudaan, few other NGOs and the hospital’s concession on transplant cost, Baby Pihu successfully underwent a liver transplant on February 16, 2022. MOHAN Foundation sanctioned Rs. 2.5 Lakh for her liver transplant.
Pihu is very fond of teaching and wants to be teacher in future. Now that she has received a gift of life, she can pursue her dream.
“With support from MOHAN Foundation’s Anudaan team, my daughter’s life has been saved. She got a chance to live again. I would like to thank them from the bottom of my heart.”-Vikram Singh, Father.
