On September 14, 2021, MOHAN Foundation’s “Anudaan- Making Transplants Affordable” team received an email from Max Super specialty Hospital, Saket, New Delhi requesting financial aid for Master Kabyaneel Parashar’s liver transplant. The child was suffering from liver cirrhosis and needed an urgent liver transplant.
Kabyaneel Parashar, age 9 months, belongs to a poor family in Darrand, Assam. His father works as an office boy and being a sole earner of the family, it was very difficult for him to afford the huge cost of his son’s liver transplant. In spite of the fact that he could not contribute much financially, he donated a part of his liver which was transplanted to his beloved son.
At a very young age, Kabyaneel had to suffer from a chronic liver disease and had to go through terrible and endless pain. He was born by cesarean section weighing 2 kg. When he was just 9 days old, he was diagnosed with Jaundice. After being treated, he once again got Jaundice when he was 2.5 months old. His health condition was getting worst day by day. He started having high fever, vomiting and stomach ache.
Since his health was critical, he was admitted to Excel Care Hospital, Guwahati but there was no sign of improvement and the doctors referred Kabyaneel to Narayana Hospital, Bengaluru for further treatment. Unfortunately, he was tested corona positive so he was kept at COVID centre and with critical care and supportive treatment, he recovered.. But after some extensive tests, it was found that the child was suffering from liver cirrhosis and needed urgent liver transplant.
The parents were stunned to hear that their only son’s life is at risk and transplant was the only option to save his life. Due to their poor economic condition, the parents decided to go back to their hometown and do the transplant later when they would have borrowed some money from their family and friends as the cost of transplant was beyond their reach. It was estimated that his liver transplant would cost around Rs. 19 Lakh including hospital charges, tests and medicines.
After some days, Kabyaneel started vomiting blood and became very sick. He was again taken to Excel Care Hospital, Guwahati, where he received treatment for a few days and was referred to Max Super Specialty Hospital, New Delhi. The parents received some positive responses from the doctor at Max Hospital. They were informed about crowd funding and MOHAN Foundation’s Anudaan for financial support for Kabyaneel’s liver transplant. The family and the hospital immediately approached Anudaan Team.
MOHAN Foundation contributed Rs. 2 Lakh for the liver transplant and with the support from few other NGOs and Max hospital’s subsidized cost for transplant, it was made possible for Kabyaneel Parashar to successfully undergo a liver transplant on 24-09-2021.
Kabyaneel is recovering and slowly resuming a normal life. His mother’s happiness is unbounded when she watches her son playing and smiling. His parents wish that he becomes a teacher in the future.
