On February 8, 2022, Anudaan- “Making Transplants Affordable” team received an email from Bombay Hospital & Medical Research Center, Mumbai requesting financial aid for Mrs. Amruta Rupesh Pakhale’s kidney transplant. She was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease and was on maintenance hemodialysis requiring an immediate kidney transplant.

The total cost of kidney transplant was Rs. 7.25 Lakhs, out of which, the family could only manage to contribute Rs. 1 Lakh. Accumulating rest amount for the transplant became a major challenge for the family and hospital. That was the time when they approached MOHAN Foundation’s Anudaan team to support them.

Anudaan team contacted Transplant coordinator at Bombay Hospital & Medical Research Center and Mrs. Amruta’s husband who shared that it was hard for him to pay the huge cost of the transplant as he worked as an office boy in a transport office, earning meager income of Rs.5000 per month. The disheartened husband requested Anudaan team to support and save the precious life of his beloved wife. After thorough discussion with him and hospital representatives, Anudaan team decided to support Amruta’s transplant. She successfully underwent kidney transplant on February 21, 2022.

Mrs. Amruta Rupesh Pakhale, age 36 belongs to a poor family in Satara, Navi Mumbai. She is an ambitious woman who wanted to be an interior designer. After her marriage, she started working in a local library to support her husband to run their family. Her misery began in 2012 when she was delivering her first child at Modern Hospital, Satara, Navi Mumbai. Amruta suffered from protein leakage and high blood pressure. The new born baby was also weak and was kept in NICU for 25 days. She was feeling depressed and helpless to see her baby going through so much pain just after birth. Amruta underwent several tests and found out that her kidney was not functioning well.

In 2016, Amruta’s health condition got critical. She was then taken to Bombay Hospital & Medical Research Center, Mumbai. She again had to go through painful tests. The doctors informed Amruta’s husband that his wife was suffering from a serious kidney disease. She was on medication since then. But in December, 2021, her condition got worst and she was put under dialysis. In February, 2022, the doctor informed the husband that Amruta needed an urgent kidney transplant in order for her to survive. MOHAN Foundation contributed Rs. 1 Lakh and with support from few other NGOs, Amruta’s kidney transplant was made possible.

After receiving a new life, Amruta is very grateful and excited for her future. She aims to fulfil her dream to become an Interior Designer.
