On June 27, 2022, MOHAN Foundation’s Anudaan- ‘Making Transplants Affordable’ team received an email from SwaNetra Eye Hospital, Jaipur, Rajasthan requesting financial aid for Mr Om Prakash’s corneal transplant.
Mr. Om Prakash, age 63 belongs to Mahendragarh, Haryana. He used to work as a construction labourer but he had to quit his work due to his eye problem. Both his sons are also working as construction laborer.
Mr Om Prakash’s eye complications started in April 2020. He suffered from left eye pain, irritation and cloudy vision He had been suffering from a corneal eye condition called cataracts and his left eye cataracts had resulted in serious sight loss and had affected his daily functioning enormously. After getting medication for some months, he was taken to SwaNetra eye hospital for further treatment. He was given medicines for some months and later, he underwent his first corneal grafting surgery.
Due to the lack of care, treatment and follow up checkup, Mr. Om Prakash again started having complications in his eye and suffered from cloudy vision. He was once again taken to SwaNetra eye hospital, where the family was informed that his corneal graft had been rejected and he immediately needed a second corneal transplant.
The family informed SwaNetra team that they had spent all the money they had and could not afford to pay for the second transplant. SwaNetra team approached Anudaan team for financial aid for supporting Mr Om Prakash’s second corneal transplant. Anudaan team contributed Rs. 20,000 towards the transplant which was successfully performed on July 22, 2022.
