Celebration of Life – A Virtual Concert by Padma Shri Usha Uthup in aid of Organ Donation

MOHAN USA, organized a virtual concert on the evening of 31st December 2021 (6 pm PST and 9 pm EST) by Padma Shri Usha Uthup to support the cause of organ donation and the work undertaken by MOHAN Foundation.

Smt. Usha Uthup enthralled the audience with a variety of songs in different languages and also spoke about organ donation and appealed to the audience to pledge to donate organs and save as many lives as possible.  The concert was streamed live on MOHAN Foundation’s YouTube and Facebook. There were 534 views on YouTube and 376 views on Facebook.

This event was held in partnership with Indian Fine Arts Academy of San Diego (IFAASD) and MFJCF.  We thank all our financial donors for their generosity.  This generosity comes as a shot in the arm for our life saving work.

MOHAN USA held their second annual fundraiser and Charity Gala in Seattle on Saturday, June 2nd, 2018.

MOHAN USA’s Second Annual Fundraiser and Charity Gala was held on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at Seattle. It was organized and managed by MOHAN USA members and volunteers based in Seattle including Dr. Nidyanandh Vadivel and Yash Shroff. It was publicized via social media and emails and attended by over 150 guests from the Seattle area as well as MOHAN USA supporters from around the country and several guests from India.

The event was a gala evening of live music and entertainment performances, interspersed with inspiring talks about the work and mission of MOHAN USA and its partners including MOHAN Foundation. The audience also generously donated to the cause. This was followed by a grand buffet style dinner and music and dancing. Overall, the fundraiser and gala event was enjoyed by everyone and a grand success.

Qutab Minar turns green for organ donation during “Samarthan 2018”

On February 17, 2018, the iconic Qutab Minar was bathed in green to highlight the cause of organ donation during the annual event by MOHAN Foundation titled ‘Samarthan 2018,’ held at the terrace of Qla at Mehrauli, New Delhi. Qla is part of the Kila complex, an old Musafirkhana which has been painstakingly restored. The Qutab Minar provides a magical backdrop to the terrace of this award-winning boutique restaurant.

The Qutab Minar was lit in green because the green ribbon symbolises hope for those who are waiting for a second chance at life through transplantation. It reminds us of the men, women and children who have died waiting for a life-saving transplant. Most importantly, it conveys our gratitude to Organ Donors and their families for giving the greatest gift of all, the gift of life.

The annual Samarthan event is an attempt by the Foundation to bring together all the policy makers, public & private hospitals and NGO’s working in the field of organ donation to raise awareness on the need for coordinated efforts of all, given the fact that India has an abysmal organ donation rate of 0.8 per million population, ranking amongst the lowest in the world.

The event featured the renowned stand-up comedian Jeeveshu Ahluwalia whose humour style is derived from observational everyday conversations, quirky monologues, peculiar situations and some eccentric friends.

The event saw the participation of senior surgeons and other medical professionals from all the major hospitals in NCR as well as friends and supporters of the Foundation. It was also attended by representatives from NOTTO, National level organisation set up under DGHS, MoHFW, Govt. of India.

At the event, the Foundation showcased an exhibition titled “Life before Ashes” featuring human organ installations made from a mix of real human ashes and mud. The underlying message was simple but powerful – ‘What have become ashes could have been another human’s heart or kidney. If only the organs were donated.’

Also featured was an exhibition titled “Nafas” that had traveled all the way from Iran. Nafas (meaning “breath” in Persian) was the first Nafas visual arts festival on the topic of Organ Donation held by Iranian Society of Organ Donation with Iranian Artists’ Forum. Selected artworks from over 2700 of the original exhibition were on display.

The Foundation also released a film on “Counseling potential donor families” at the event. It is a film made by MOHAN Foundation(adapted from a film by NHS Blood and Transplant, UK) on how the treating physician along with the Transplant Coordinator can approach a family to request for organ donation.

Mumbai CST bathed in Green: A Tribute to Organ Donors and their Families on National Organ Donation Day


The iconic century-old Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus Mumbai (CSTM) railway station, was illuminated in Bright Green on 27th November 2018, India’s National Organ Donation day, to highlight the cause of organ donation that is conventionally represented by a Green ribbon. It symbolises hope for all those waiting for a second chance at life through transplantation. It reminds us of the men, women and children who have died waiting for a life-saving organ. Most importantly, it conveys our gratitude to Organ Donors and their families for giving the supreme gift of all – the gift of life.

This initiative was undertaken by SBI Foundation and MOHAN Foundation who have partnered with each other through the project “Gift Hope, Gift Life”

#LiveTwice: Be an Organ Donor is a campaign launched by SBI Foundation which aims to spread awareness about Organ Donation and urge people to consider signing up online at www.sbif.organdonor.in or call the National Organ Donation 24×7 Toll Free Helpline.

An information booth was also setup by MOHAN Foundation for two days, inside the busy station that is a UNESCO World heritage site and sees an average footfall of around 6.3 lakh passengers per day.

A special awareness activity like Quiz on Organ Donation was held to arouse the public’s curiosity. Also a game was conducted in which human organ cut-outs were kept and people were asked to fix the organs that could be donated onto the human body image in its respective place. The winning group was awarded T-shirts.

About 500 people visited the stall in 2 days and about 100 pledges were taken. Central Railway PRO Mr. Sunil Udasi and SBI Foundation COO, Mr. Nixon Joseph also visited the kiosk, thereby showing their support.

Jaipur Turns Green for the National Organ Donation Day

On 27th November, the National Organ Donation Day, famous monuments like the Hawa Mahal, Albert Hall, Amer Fort and Jal Mahal of Jaipur city were lit up green. These monuments remained lit for three days – 25th, 26th and 27th November to spread awareness about organ donation among people.

Green symbolises hope for the millions who are awaiting a second chance at life through organ transplantation. It also reminds of those who have died waiting for a life-saving organ. Most importantly, it conveys our gratitude to organ donors and their families for giving the supreme gift of all – the gift of life. The organ donation cause is also represented by a green ribbon.

The Jaipur city authorities have shown their support towards the cause by lighting up the city green for the last few years now. This initiative of MFJCF-Navjeevan was covered by many leading newspapers.

Jaipur Monuments lit with green light to motivate Jaipurites

On the occasion of world organ donation day 13th Aug 2018 important archeological buildings of Jaipur mainly Albert Hall, Amber Fort, Hawamahal and Statue Circle were illuminated in green at night. This was done to spread awareness for organ donation among the people. The Departments oftourism and art and culture gave its nod for illuminating monuments with green color for spreading awareness about this noble cause. These are the places which are visited by 1000 of tourists’every day.

Rajasthan is the state where 29 families had donated organs of their dear and near ones after they were declared brain dead and were transplanted into 110 persons to give them new life.

Life Before Ashes

Life before Ashes’ is a poignant, yet hard-hitting, message by MOHAN Foundation (Multi Organ Harvesting Aid Network) to spread a very simple message – ‘What has now become ashes, could have been another person’s heart or kidney, if only the organs were donated.’ The Foundation has created a set of art installations of human organs to highlight this urgency and make the public think about organ donation.

The human organ installations are made from a mix of real human ashes and mud from graves. This idea stems from the insight that people are ready to allow their organs to be burnt and wasted, but they aren’t willing to let their organs give a new life to someone. The installations are meant to make people think about the need of organ donation while also urging them to sign up and become organ donors.

The campaign tries to expand the notion of organ transplant by emphasizing on the merits of organ donation, highlighting the declining number of registrations and bringing to focus the social stigma attached to organ donation in India.

The art collection featuring human heart, liver, kidney and eyeball went on display at Infinity Mall, (Malad), Apollo Hospital (Navi Mumbai) and Global Hospital (Parel). MOHAN Foundation plans to take the installations to more malls, hospitals and public places across Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai as well as hospitals in the UK.

MOHAN Foundation’s bold and hard hitting campaign, “Life Before Ashes” bagged 3 Golds and a silver at the IAA Olive Crown Awards 2019.

ZEE Entertainment’s Olive Crown Awards recognises outstanding work in sustainability and the preservation of our ecosystem every year. The award ceremony was held at ITC Grand Central, Parel, Mumbai on 18th April 2019.

“Life Before Ashes” is a poignant yet hard-hitting message by MOHAN Foundation to spread a very simple message – ‘What has now become ashes, could have been another person’s heart or kidney or liver or eyes, if only they were donated. The travelling art installations in the shape of human organs such as the heart, kidney, liver and eyes, which were made from a mix of real human ashes and mud from the graves, were displayed at malls, hospitals, conferences, etc., through the country, thus spreading the message and motivating many more to take the pledge for donating their organs.

The ‘Life Before Ashes’ Campaign wins top accolades at leading advertising awards in India this year.

Earlier this year, MOHAN Foundation launched this campaign, aimed at spreading a poignant yet hard hitting message – ‘What has now become ashes, could have been another person’s heart or kidney, if only the organs were donated’. The Foundation created a set of art installations of human organs to highlight this urgency and set the public thinking about organ donation. The human organ installations, in the shape of a heart, kidney, liver and eyes were made from a mix of real human ashes and mud from the graves and have been on display at malls and hospitals all across India.

At the Big Bang Awards 2018, organized by the Advertising Club Bangalore on 28th September 2018 at the Ritz Carlton, Bengaluru, the campaign was recognized as the ‘Creative Campaign of the Year’, while also winning 3 Gold, 3 Silver and 2 Bronze medals in various other categories.

At the Abby’s 2018 organized by the Advertising Club Mumbai during 5-7th April 2018 at Grand Hyatt, Goa, it won 2 Gold metals along with 7 Silvers, featuring across a large number of categories including Print, Print Craft, Out of Home, Ambient, PR, Branded Content as well as Integrated.

It also won 2 Golds at the Outdoor Advertising Convention Awards 2018 at Renaissance, Mumbai on 28th July 2018.
