Case story- Master Hardhik Singh
On Feb 22, 2022 Mohan Foundation’s Anudaan team received an email from MAX Super Speciality Hospital, Saket, New Delhi requesting financial aid for Master Hardhik Singh’s liver Transplant, who was suffering from Biliary Atresia and needed an urgent liver transplant. Biliary atresia is a blockage in the tubes (ducts) that carry bile from the liver to the gallbladder. This congenital condition occurs when the bile ducts inside or outside the liver do not develop normally.
Master Hardhik Singh, age 8 months hails from SAS Nagar, Mohali, Punjab. He belongs to a poor family. His father works as a school bus driver in Chandigarh, earning a monthly meagre income. It was hard for him to run the family and at the same time, spend on medical expenses of his son.
When Hardhik was just 25 days old, he started to fall sick. Some muscle knots were starting to develop on his back. The family immediately rushed to PGI Chandigarh only to receive the shocking news that that the biliary drain tube (also called a biliary stent) was missing in his body and an external biliary drainage catheter had to be placed in his body through surgery.
Hardhik was just 2 months old when he had to undergo the excruciating surgery. He received medicines for 5 months but his suffering was not coming to an end. His eyes were getting pale and stomach started swelling day by day. He was then again taken to PGI Chandigarh. Endoscopy was done and doctors informed that Hardhik’s condition was serious and he needed a liver transplant. The family was referred to MAX Super Speciality Hospital, Saket, New Delhi. The doctors examined the patient. He had to go through several tests. After proper physical examination and tests, it was found that Hardhik was suffering from Biliary Atresia. The parents were shattered after hearing this news.
After the parents discussed about their poor economic background, the doctors informed them about MOHAN Foundation’s Anudaan. This information gave them a new hope. With the support from Anudaan, few other NGO’s and the hospital concession on transplant cost, Hardhik successfully underwent a liver transplant on the March 17, 2022. MOHAN Foundation sanctioned Rs 2.5 Lakh for his liver transplant.
Hardhik’s parents are happy and excited to see that their son received a new lease of life. He is slowly resuming a normal life. His parents wish that he becomes a surgeon in future and save many lives by his own hand.
“My heartfelt gratitude to MOHAN Foundation’s Anudaan team for saving my son’s life with their financial support.”- Mr Harpreet Singh- Father
